Winter Vacation 2025 Schedule Announced For All Schools

24 October, 2025 10:54

The Punjab government has formally released the winter vacation timetable for all public and private educational institutions across the province. According to the circular issued by the Punjab School Education Department, schools will observe winter holidays from December 23, 2025, to January 10, 2026, with classes resuming on Monday, January 13, 2026.

Official Directive Applies to All Institutions

The notification covers every category of school operating within Punjab — including English-medium, Cambridge-affiliated institutions, madaris, and community schools. The department has ordered district authorities to ensure complete adherence to the schedule, warning that any school found open during the designated break will face disciplinary action.

A senior departmental official explained,

“The winter closure is intended to safeguard students from extreme cold, dense fog, and seasonal ailments that intensify in late December.”

Winter Vacation Schedule 2025

Province Vacation Dates Key Reason
Punjab 23 Dec 2025 – 10 Jan 2026 Dense Fog, Cold Wave
Sindh 20 Dec 2025 – 4 Jan 2026 (Tentative) Mild Winter
KP (Urban Areas) 25 Dec 2025 – 7 Jan 2026 Moderate Cold
KP (Hilly Areas) 1 Dec 2025 – 1 Mar 2026 Heavy Snowfall
Balochistan 15 Dec 2025 – 15 Feb 2026 Extreme Cold

Extended Break Due to Harsh Weather

The Punjab government’s decision to prolong the winter holidays stems from forecasts of cold waves and dense fog, which create hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility. Officials also noted a rise in flu and smog-related illnesses during this period.

Another contributing factor is the ongoing gas and power shortages across several districts, making it difficult for schools to provide adequate heating during early hours.

Parents have been urged to keep children warm, hydrated, and engaged in indoor activities such as reading, art, and light exercise. The department has also encouraged families to maintain proper sleep routines and reduce screen exposure.

Teachers have been instructed to assign light revision work to board-exam students to ensure academic continuity throughout the break.

Travel Advisory and Seasonal Tips

Authorities have advised families travelling during the holidays to restrict long journeys to daylight hours due to frequent motorway closures and flight delays caused by heavy fog. Travellers are recommended to monitor weather updates and follow safety precautions on the road.

The winter holidays coincide with Punjab’s festive culinary season, marked by traditional favourites like Gajar ka Halwa, Panjeeri, Chicken Corn Soup, and Kashmiri Chai, offering warmth and comfort during the chilly days.

Schools to Reopen With Winter Timings

After the holidays, most schools across Punjab will resume with revised winter timings, beginning around 9:00 AM. Institutions have also been directed to hold welcome-back activities — including essay writing contests and sports events — to help students ease back into their academic routines smoothly.
