Are early winter holidays expected in Punjab as smog situation worsens?
Punjab is once again engulfed in a severe smog crisis, reigniting concerns over possible school closures and early winter vacations similar to those enforced last year.
According to the Meteorological Office, smog conditions across the province are worsening rapidly, with Lahore bearing the brunt of hazardous air quality. The persistent spell of dry weather has intensified pollution levels, and experts warn that the situation is likely to deteriorate further in the coming days.
Lahore has now been ranked as the world’s most polluted city, registering a dangerously high Air Quality Index (AQI) that poses grave health threats. The provincial capital remains the most severely affected area, with worsening air quality causing serious difficulties for residents—particularly school-going children, who are among the most susceptible to respiratory ailments and related health complications.
As in previous years, the escalating smog has fueled widespread speculation regarding the possibility of early winter breaks for schools.
However, authorities have clarified that no decision has yet been made concerning school closures or the advancement of winter vacations this year.
