Iran Warns of Swift and Crushing Response to Any US Violation of Islamabad MoU
A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has issued a stark warning to Washington, declaring that any violation of the recently signed memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States will be met with a forceful and immediate military response, as tensions between the two nations show dangerous signs of re-escalation.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and currently a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader, took to his official X account on Saturday to assert that the United States had already breached multiple provisions of the war-ending Islamabad MoU. He charged that Washington violated the first clause of the memorandum “by supporting the actions of its proxy forces in the region,” a reference to Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon, and further breached the fifth clause “by continuing to create tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.”
“The response to the violation of any clause of the memorandum will be swift and crushing,” Rezaei reiterated, leaving no ambiguity about Tehran’s readiness to act.
US Strikes Iranian Sites, IRGC Retaliates
The warning follows a sharp and dangerous exchange of military actions between the two sides. In a statement issued on Friday night, the US Central Command announced that it had conducted strikes against what it described as Iranian missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar installations, framing the assault as a response to an Iranian Armed Forces attack on a vessel navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours later, the IRGC conducted its own retaliatory strikes, targeting American military positions in the region, further raising the stakes in an already fragile post-agreement environment.
Islamabad MoU Now Under Serious Strain
The military exchanges have cast a serious shadow over the landmark 14-point Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed just over a week ago between Tehran and Washington to bring an end to the US-Israeli military campaigns on multiple fronts. The agreement had committed both sides to ending wars across all fronts including Lebanon, lifting US sanctions on Iran, removing the American naval blockade, and restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days.
The current standoff underscores the fragility of the deal and the deep distrust that continues to define the Iran-US relationship, even as both parties had publicly committed to honouring the terms of the historic accord brokered in Islamabad.
