WHO launches Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan 2021 for COVID19 response.

The World Health Organization (WHO) launched it on Thursday in Geneva.

WHO launches Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan 2021

Now, it is seeking nearly $2 billion to fund its 2021 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP) for COVID-19 response.

Specially, the WHO eyes aforesaid financial support from its member States.

According to WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the plan recognizes the need to fully integrate COVID-19 response into planning for health and development programmes.

However, it remains to be seen how the member states cooperate with the WHO.

The major member-state United States under former President Trump had maligned the WHO.

But Biden administration has announced reversal of Trump’s anti-WHO policy.

Ironically, the developing countries are suffering the most due to pandemic because of intensified economic difficulties.

Therefore, Pakistan government has time and again proposed economic assistance.

Specially, Prime Minister Imran Khan has floated this idea at the international forums.

Unfortunately, developed countries and organizations such as IMF have not written off debts so far.

That lack of writing off debts aggravated economic conditions in developing countries.

Humanity needs humane response but the so-called civilized nations seem to have failed to act appropriately.

To a common man in developing countries, developed nations have failed even in ridding their own citizens of the pandemic.
