The International Monetary Fund has expressed its willingness to work with the newly elected government of Pakistan, the statement came hours after PTI said its founder is writing a letter to the Fund to provide further loan only if there’s good governance in the country.

In a media briefing, IMF’s Director Communications Julie Kozack expressed her satisfaction with the caretaker government’s actions regarding economic stability, saying that during the caretaker government, the authorities maintained economic stability, to control inflation, increase foreign exchange and followed a tight monetary policy.

Julie Kozack further said that on January 11, the IMF Executive Board approved the first review of the Standby Arrangement, under which $1.9 billion was released to Pakistan, a loan program that is helping Pakistan in its economic stabilization efforts.

The IMF Director Communications said that the loan program has a strong focus on protecting the vulnerable. We are looking forward to working with the new government on policy to ensure macroeconomic stability in Pakistan for broader economic stability and prosperity for Pakistani citizens, she added.

To a question about PTI founder’s letter to IMF, she said that she doesn’t want to add to what she had to say.

Yesterday, PTI founder’s counsel Barrister Ali Zafar told reporters at the Adiala Jail that Imran Khan will issue a letter to the IMF today.

The charter of IMF, EU, and other organisations stipulates that they can function or provide loans to a country only if there’s good governance,” the PTI leader’s counsel Barrister Ali Zafar told reporters at the Adiala Jail on Thursday.

He said PTI founder would write a letter to the IMF and ask it to call upon the Pakistani government to conduct an audit of the rigged constituencies through an independent audit team.
