Pakistan Approves Home-Based Passport Application System

Pakistan Approves Home-Based Passport Application System
The government of Pakistan has approved a new plan that will allow citizens to apply for passports from their homes. The move is seen as an important step toward improving and modernizing immigration services in the country.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
Officials from the technical team of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) also attended the meeting. During the session, several important decisions related to passport reforms were reviewed and approved.
Authorities examined the current passport system and discussed areas that need modernization to meet modern digital standards. Officials were given a briefing on new technology and policy changes aimed at creating a fully digital passport system.
Last week, the federal government also reduced the processing time for ordinary passports from 21 days to 14 days after another meeting held in Islamabad.
The government has further directed passport offices to switch to fully cashless operations within 15 days. Officials say this step will improve transparency and help remove unauthorized agents from the system.
During the meeting, officials also discussed plans for business passports, better home delivery services, and the creation of a separate passport authority to improve public services.
