KP Assembly Approves Rs121.47 Billion Supplementary Budget for Law and Development

28 June, 2026 22:56

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has unanimously passed a supplementary budget exceeding Rs121.47 billion on Sunday, approving additional financial allocations across a broad range of government departments to address urgent spending needs, accelerate development activity, and strengthen security and public welfare services throughout the province — including in the newly merged tribal districts.

Budget Breakdown: Current and Development Expenditures

Of the total supplementary budget, Rs50.49 billion has been designated for current expenditures covering the operational needs of government departments, while Rs71.73 billion has been earmarked specifically for the province’s development programme. The assembly additionally approved Rs49.89 billion under revised current expenditure provisions, further expanding the fiscal scope of the supplementary package.

Key Departmental Allocations

The largest single departmental allocation within the supplementary budget has been directed toward law enforcement, with the KP Police receiving Rs7.53 billion — a reflection of the provincial government’s continued prioritization of security amid persistent threats from militancy and crime across the province.

The Administration of Justice department received Rs4.12 billion to support judicial functioning and court operations, while the Home Department was allocated Rs1.38 billion and the Prisons Department received Rs514.1 million to address correctional facility needs.

Local governance received substantial attention in the budget, with Local Councils allocated Rs7.5 billion and the Local Government Department receiving an additional Rs1.29 billion to support municipal services and local administration across the province.

The Social Welfare Department was granted Rs4.43 billion to fund public welfare programmes, while the Relief sector received Rs7.35 billion — a significant allocation reflecting the province’s ongoing exposure to natural disasters and displacement-related humanitarian needs. The merged districts, which continue to require elevated levels of developmental and administrative investment following their integration into KP, received an additional Rs3 billion.

Other notable allocations include Rs3 billion for debt servicing, Rs1.46 billion for the Transport Department, Rs706.5 million for the Information Department, Rs412.9 million for the Forests Department, Rs323.6 million for the Revenue Department, Rs791.9 million for the Administration Department, and Rs40.2 million for the Planning and Development Department.

Purpose and Objectives

Officials stated that the supplementary grants are designed to address urgent and unforeseen spending requirements that emerged during the current fiscal year, accelerate the pace of ongoing development projects, and bolster security and public welfare initiatives across KP. The budget aims to ensure that essential public services continue without interruption while development schemes maintain momentum through the remainder of the fiscal year.
