Terrorist attack in Quetta leaves nine policemen martyred
At least nine policemen were martyred in a terrorist attack in the Mangi Phase III area of Quetta, Balochistan, on Tuesday.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, security forces and the terrorists exchanged heavy fire throughout the night. Police officers fought the attackers for several hours before the attack ended.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ziarat said the police showed strong resistance and continued fighting the terrorists overnight. He also said that a search operation was underway to find five missing policemen.
Officials have not yet shared further details about the attack or any security operation that may have followed. Authorities are expected to provide more information after the investigation.
Earlier in May, at least nine people, including two traffic police officials, were martyred and 23 others were injured in a powerful blast in Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police said a loader rickshaw carrying explosives exploded in a crowded market during rush hour. Rescue 1122 teams quickly reached the scene and shifted the injured and the bodies of the victims to Naurang Hospital for treatment.
Police and Bomb Disposal Squad officials sealed off the area after the blast to collect evidence and begin an investigation.
Many local residents also gathered at the hospital to help rescue teams and donate blood for those who were injured. Authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
