Fact Check: School closure notification circulating online
Will Sindh schools open on August 1 after summer holidays?
A fake notification claiming that all public and private schools across Punjab will remain closed from May 8 to May 10, 2025, is being widely shared on social media. However, the Punjab School Education Department has officially denied issuing any such order.
The false document, dated May 7, claimed to be signed by the Secretary of School Education and announced a three-day holiday for schools. It even mentioned that O-Level and A-Level international exams would continue as planned during the closure. The document appeared official, using fake formatting and listing several government departments to make it seem legitimate.
Officials have confirmed that the notification is forged and has no legal standing. They have urged the public not to believe or share unverified information, especially when it concerns school operations and exam schedules.
“No decision has been taken to close schools,” a department source stated. “Any announcement related to school closures will only be made through official government channels.”
The department also issued a warning to those spreading misinformation, stating that such actions create panic among students, parents, and educational institutions. Legal action could be taken against individuals or groups found involved in spreading false news.
Students and parents are advised to stay updated only through the official website and verified social media accounts of the Punjab School Education Department for any authentic announcements.
