Will schools start summer vacations early because of rising temperatures?

07 May, 2026 18:05

Rising temperatures and expected weather changes over the next few months have raised discussions about the early start of summer holidays in Punjab schools, especially around the 2026 Eid al-Adha break.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather advisory for the coming three months, warning about unusual weather conditions.

According to the report, May, June, and July 2026 are expected to bring higher-than-normal temperatures along with above-average rainfall in some areas. Officials said that northern and northwestern parts of Punjab may receive more rain than usual, while eastern regions could see slightly less rainfall. Central Punjab is expected to get normal rainfall levels.

The PDMA also warned that a heatwave is likely across Punjab from May 7 to May 11. During May, temperatures are expected to stay above normal in all parts of the province.

Because of the rising heat and weather conditions, there are expectations that school summer vacations may start earlier than the official schedule, especially if conditions become more intense in the coming weeks.
