Binaca Geet Mala: Indian radio’s Ameen Sayani dies at 91

Ameen Sayani, a famous Indian radio presenter, has passed away.

According to Indian media, 91-year-old Ameen Sayani suffered a heart attack, after which he was taken to a local hospital in Mumbai.

He died during treatment at the hospital.

Ameen Sayani began his stint with Radio Ceylon in 1951. His popular show was “Binaca Geet Mala”.

“Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon” was his popular opening of the show still remembered by his fans all around the world.

Ameen Sayani performed more than 50,000 shows in his 42-year career.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over his death. Ameen Sayani’s last rites will be performed today (Thursday).
