02 November, 2023 18:51

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that general elections in the country would be held on Feb 11, 2024.

In an official statement, the ECP lawyer ensured the court that all preparations, including the delimitation of constituencies, would be concluded by January 29, 2023, while the general election will take place on February 11 across the country.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa commented, let the ECP meet with the President of Pakistan today and the date for holding general elections in Pakistan be appointed.

“We expect that the matter of appointing a date for holding general elections shall be settled, and this court will be informed tomorrow (Nov 3),” Justice Isa added.

“The final date for polls will be announced from the Supreme Court,” Justice Isa announced, adding that after this petitions regarding any delays won’t be entertained.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and including Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah heard the case. The Supreme Court Bar Association, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and others filed applications against the decision of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and delay in general elections beyond 90 days.
