Love Triangle Revenge: Shannon Morgan Glassed Ex's New Lover at Wake
A heated argument over a child’s safety under a pool table escalated into a violent glass attack at a Cheshire pub, leaving one woman with a near-fatal neck injury and lasting psychological trauma.
The altercation occurred at the Ivy Leaf pub in Cheshire, where both women had gathered to remember 32-year-old Mr. Coates, who had passed away the previous month. Morgan, from Macclesfield, was playing pool with a friend when Miss Wilson expressed concern about a child being under the table, fearing they might get hurt.
An argument erupted, with Morgan allegedly telling Wilson, “Just drop it, dickhead.” As Wilson turned away, Morgan smashed a glass into her neck, leaving a 3cm gash just millimetres from her jugular vein. Wilson, initially refusing medical help, later required hospital treatment and stitches.
Life-Altering Injuries
In a victim impact statement, Wilson described the lasting damage:
- Physical: A permanent scar on her neck, serving as a daily reminder of the attack.
- Psychological: Severe anxiety, nightmares, and panic attacks, requiring medication and therapy.
- Professional: Reduced work capacity, avoiding social events, and abandoning her gym routine.
“I was told I was very lucky to be alive,” Wilson said. “I have never suffered from anxiety like this before.”
Court Proceedings
At Crewe Magistrates’ Court, Morgan:
✔ Pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.
✔ Received a 12-month suspended sentence (2-year suspension).
✔ Was issued a restraining order banning contact with Wilson for two years.
✔ Ordered to pay £720 compensation, plus £154 in costs.
✔ Must complete 30 days of rehabilitation and wear an alcohol-monitoring tag for 120 days.
Morgan’s lawyer, Gabby Black, acknowledged her client’s remorse but cited emotional distress (the gathering was for her late partner) and alcohol as aggravating factors. She also claimed Wilson had been “in her face” during the argument.
Magistrate Tim Bakkers noted the attack’s “potentially life-ending” severity but considered Morgan’s previous good character and the funeral’s emotional toll in sentencing.
CCTV shown in court captured the moment Morgan forcefully pushed the glass into Wilson’s neck before fleeing. The case highlights how pub disputes—fueled by alcohol and personal tensions—can spiral into life-changing violence.
